Specification matching
Also: spec matching · SKU matching
Specification matching resolves a scope line item to a supplier product by its attributes — thickness, fire rating, coverage rate, R-value — rather than by product name. It ensures a '5/8 Type X' drywall line matches an actual 5/8 Type X board, not a similarly named product with the wrong specification.
Supplier catalog search ranks for shoppers, not for spec compliance, so a name-based match will happily return a 1/2-inch board for a 5/8-inch Type X line. Matching on attributes is what keeps a takeoff orderable without a human re-checking every SKU.
