Material takeoff
Also: takeoff · quantity takeoff · material list
A material takeoff is the itemized list of every material a construction or repair job requires — each item with its quantity, specification, and waste allowance — derived from a scope of work, estimate, or drawing set. It is the bridge between an approved scope and the purchase order that buys the materials.
A takeoff is distinct from an estimate. An estimate prices the work for a customer or carrier; a takeoff lists the goods that have to be purchased to perform it. On a restoration claim the two are often produced by different people at different stages — the carrier's estimate first, the contractor's takeoff at buyout.
