Inputs
Estimated materials
- Tiles needed
- 159 tiles
- Boxes
- 11 boxes
- Area
- 144 SF (159 SF with waste)
- Thinset (50 lb bags)
- 2 bags
- Grout
- 10.9 lb (1 × 25 lb bag)
Thinset assumes a 1/4" notch for small tile and a 1/2" notch for large-format (15"+). Grout is a joint-volume estimate — check your grout's coverage chart. Use 15% waste for diagonal or patterned layouts. Estimate — verify before ordering.

Frequently asked
- How do I calculate how many tiles I need?
- Find the area in square feet, add 10% waste (15% for diagonal or patterned layouts), then divide by the area of one tile in square feet. A 12×12 tile is 1 SF; a 12×24 is 2 SF.
- How much thinset do I need?
- A 50 lb bag covers roughly 90 SF with a 1/4" square notch trowel, but only about 40–50 SF with the 1/2" notch large-format tile needs.
- How much grout do I need?
- Grout depends on tile size, thickness, and joint width. Smaller tiles and wider joints use far more. This calculator estimates joint volume; confirm with your grout's coverage chart.
