Flooring by room size
Frequently asked
- How do I calculate how much flooring I need?
- Multiply room length by width for square footage, add 10% for cuts and waste (15% for diagonal layouts), then divide by the square feet per box and round up.
- How much extra flooring should I buy?
- Plan on 10% extra for a straight lay in a regular room and 15% for diagonal, herringbone, or rooms with many corners. Keep a spare box for future repairs.
- Do I need underlayment?
- Most floating laminate and many vinyl plank floors need an underlayment unless one is pre-attached. It's bought by the roll and should cover the full floor area.
